What California fans can use today
No sportsbook is licensed to take a customer in California, so the board's sportsbook prices are for reference. DraftKings and FanDuel offer separate prediction-market apps in the state.
Kalshi and Polymarket: federally regulated, a fee on each fill. Priced on the board with the fee removed.
This week’s Lakers games, priced where California can play
There is no sportsbook to compare against in California, so this is Novig against the best exchange price. Profit on a $100 position, fees taken out.
| Game | Favourite | Novig | Best exchange |
|---|---|---|---|
| Portland Trail Blazers at Los Angeles Lakers Fri, Nov 6 · 10:00 PM ET | Los Angeles Lakers | -144 +$69.44 | -151 Polymarket · +$66.09 |

The law in California, in plain English
Only a change to the state constitution can open sports betting in California. Proposition 1A (2000) reserved casino gaming for tribes, Penal Code section 337a makes taking bets a crime, and the state has no sports betting regulator. Voters turned down both 2022 proposals, the tribal in-person plan (Proposition 26) and the operators' online plan (Proposition 27). The California Nations Indian Gaming Association says the tribes are working toward a ballot measure in 2028.
Lakers fans can trade on CFTC-regulated prediction markets instead. Novig, an exchange where other traders set the price of a position, is open to Californians 21 and over, and so are Kalshi and Polymarket US. Tribal land is the exception for Kalshi: after the Ninth Circuit held in September that its sports contracts are likely unauthorized gaming there, a federal judge in San Francisco this week ordered Kalshi to switch them off on the plaintiff tribes' reservations. The order does not reach the rest of the state, and Attorney General Rob Bonta has backed the states' side in court rather than acting against the exchanges himself.
